The Storm and the Perspective

February 28, 2026

Although blizzards can bring on a number of feelings such as a sense of fear (worrying for everyone's safety during incliment weather), inconvenience, disappointment, frustration... for some reason, Blizzard of 2026 brought on a new light. A different perspective. Just like I used to always think about perspective a few years back.

Don’t get me wrong, it’s the “million dollar storm” according to news and so much clean up that we are still working on shoveling and moving snow 5 days later. Big plans were cancelled (like our little cousin Rory’s big 1st birthday party). I think at one point 99.9% of us were thinking what Riley was thinking, she was just brave enough to say it out loud.

The "Wicked Big Storm" sign appeared on I-95. That meant get ready.

Blizzard of 2026 had us outside, playing and enjoying mother nature. Baking cookies, making homemade meals. No lost power (thankfully). We are always grateful for Lou. Seeing him outside with the snowblower and shovel that morning, day and night when the storm came just made us hyperaware of how much we really do appreciate him. He also felt the need to go snowmobiling in the street! (Can you hear my “Do Not Attempt This At Home” disclaimer added?!) He wanted to “flatten the road” for the neighbors as he called it… but I called it “kid thinks he’s on the trails.” But it was fun. So exciting and so much fun. As much as I loved our little “storm story”.. building Frosty, snowy heart, snowballs, sliding… I then started to see what others were doing to embrace the storm and boy was it priceless. I’ll be talking about it years to come.

“Parker” the snowman grew even bigger! Reaching 23 feet high and 25 feet wide!!! That’s gotta earn the next snowman movie inspo. We even saw a JAWS! A shark sculpted out of snow in someone’s front yard. That was Louie’s personal fav. When I showed him, he gasped the same as if it was Christmas morning, with that sparkle in his eye. Then we saw a crocodile head sculpted by Nick! Another personal fav of ours. I saw my friend Ata’s clips from NYC. The snowman family, boy sledding down the hill and his smile captured at the end, and the dog jumping through the snow with pure glee were my favorites. I messaged Ata: “movie maker”. Maybe those simple words made him smile and maybe even sent a little inspiration. Although his talents are already widely recognized. Then I saw it, The North End aka My North End. Local photographers capture the area in the storm. The beauty was overwhelming and the memories came flooding in. For a moment, I wish I was there. Especially there with my dad. But I told myself it’s ok because tending to the littles is where I’m actually supposed to be right now. The guys snowboarding and skiing and ski jumping right in the middle of the streets and parks. College Street in Providence looked like Loon Mountain. Benches and stairs and hills used as jumps and for tricks and flips. Absolutely unbelievable and so cool. This storm was the perfect fuel for the Red Bull Heavy Metal set up. There were so many American Flags and the contrast against the snow made it almost tangible. American spirit is alive and stood out during this storm. The Ron Burgundy New England predictive snowfall weather chart had me laughing too hard. They needed 6 ‘Gansetts stacked high to measure the snowfall. An Igloo with a coffee window and another with a bar was created. Absolutely epic moments. I said “amazing” almost as many times as I hear “mommy” in a day (lol). Doctors hiking and skiing to get to work to deliver babies. This blizzard stopped the Boston Globe from printing it’s newspaper (first time in 153 years). The 86 year old man sledding with the giggle will leave an imprint in my mind for when I search for happy moments that life can give. Not sure when we will see it again. Blizzard of ’78 was all we used to hear about. Now it’s 2026 baby! It’s moments like these that even through the storm, there is light. You can find true happiness and creativity, especially if you look for it. It’s known that God can and will bring the storm and it changes our perspective. This storm did shift me from my little world to the wonders of this world that we can see through Him. In this storm, beauty and creativity was present and couldn’t be missed. It was epic!

As February closes out and we head into March, Spring comes to mind. Spring is our time for growth, vitality, rebirth, new, warmth, hope. I think we are just about ready here in New England. But there is a small part of me that will hold onto this winter forever. It started as Vinny’s first winter. My dad coulda soulda whoulda turned 80. My first published book went LIVE! Then, it was the Blizzard of 2026. The time I got into thinking about perspecitve again.

Love,

B
